Measured Surveys
The first step in your project: a measured survey

To prepare your planning permission drawings, we first require a measured survey — a detailed assessment of the property where the works are proposed.
What Does a Measured Survey Cover?
A measured survey records the internal and external features of the building, including room dimensions, window and door positions, ceiling heights, and key structural elements.
The survey provides accurate measurements, sketches, and photographs, giving us all the information needed to produce precise, reliable planning drawings.

Taking the Measurements Yourself
If you prefer, you can carry out the measured survey yourself.
All you’ll need is:
-
Pens (black, blue, and red)
-
Paper
-
Measuring tape or laser measure
-
Camera or smartphone
You can then send us your measurements, sketches, and photos by email.
👉 Follow the guidance in our Knowledge Hub to learn how to carry out your own measured survey.
Measured Surveys by SY Design Studio
Where available, we may be able to work from existing planning drawings or estate agent floor plans. If no suitable information is available, a measured survey site visit will be required.
Depending on your location, the survey will be carried out by a member of our team or one of our trusted third-party surveyors.
